IMPORTANT - TCP PORT CHANGE
DKMessenger has been granted its own port by the Internet Assigned Numbers
Authority (IANA). This means that the DKMessenger port is guarranteed not to
conflict with other applications. The new TCP Port number is 1177. While
you can use any port you choose with DKMessenger (the old default was 81), new
versions of DKMessenger will default to port 1177. You may want to change firewall
and router settings accordingly.
UPnP Support
DKMessenger supports UPnP. If your NAT firewall/router has UPnP support,
just turn it on and DKMessenger can configure itself automatically (Note: Windows
2000/XP only). Check your firewall/router documentation to see if UPnP is
supported on your device and how to turn it on.
Home Networking
If your computer is connected directly to the Internet via a DSL, cable or
regular modem, DKMessenger setup is fairly straight-forward.
Ports 1177 & 2074 (TCP) need to be open in both directions
on your computer. This is set in Windows Internet Connection Firewall for Windows 2000
and XP and irrelavent for previous versions of Windows, as there is no firewall
software included.
If you connect to the Internet through another computer on the network
(using Windows built-in routing functionality), you need to enable the 'Allow other network users
to control or disable the shared Internet connection' option (see below). This allows DKMessenger to
'self-configure' on your network.
Home Networking Links
If you have a firewall, more work is required. You need to implement 'Port Forwarding'
on your firewall software. Usually the firewall control panel is available from
your web browser at http://192.168.0.1 or
http://192.168.2.1. You may be prompted for a password,
which in most cases the default is 'admin'. See the links above for detailed
instructions of selected popular routers. Check your firewall documentation
for more information.
Once you have access to your firewall configuration software you need to setup
Port Forwarding. You need to forward TCP ports 1177 and 2074 to the internal IP Address
of the computer behind the firewall that you want to run DKMessenger. The IP Address
most likely follows the pattern 192.168.xxx.xxx. Once port forwarding is enabled,
you can install, register and begin using DKMessenger.
If you have a different network configuration, or do not have access to the
firewall configuration software, you should still be able to run
DKMessenger using HTTP mode. Note that HTTP mode is NOT peer-to-peer and routes data through
DKware servers. You can set DKMessenger to HTTP mode from the Setup or Login screens.
Please contact DKware directly if you have a more sophisticated network architecture.
We are happy to help you get setup. There is no charge for email technical support.
